Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a torn ACL and torn MCL in his right knee, the team announced today.Malkin’s rehabilitation period will take six months, and he will be ready for the start of training camp in September, general manager Ray Shero said.
Malkin, 24, the 2009 NHL scoring champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner as MVP of the playoffs, suffered the injury during Friday’s game against Buffalo at CONSOL Energy Center.
He had 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 43 games this season.
